Derek Jackson  

Derek Jackson is a visual artist and performer based in Portland, Maine and New York City.  He is an original member of the dance music ensemble Daisy Spurs which, since 2004 have performed at venues such as CBGB’s, Knitting Factory, Dixon Place, and Galapagos.  In the spring of 2007, Derek was a guest artist panelist for the AIDS/ART/WORK conference presented by Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies and Visual AIDS. As an archive member of Visual AIDS, his work has been included in numerous curated web exhibitions and appeared in Corpus, published by AIDS Project Lost Angeles. Derek's work has been screened at MIX NYC: New York Queer Experimental Film Fesitval as well as featured in exhibitions at Artists Space, HereART, Exit Art, CRG Gallery, Queens Museum of Art, Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos and The Bronx Museum among others.  Most recently Derek has been curating exhibitions at Sanctuary Tattoo and Art Gallery in Portland, Maine and presenting work in local Portland alternative venues. He is a recipient of awards from the Maine Arts Commission, the Brooklyn Arts Council, The Djerassi Artist Residency Program, and Momenta Arts. Derek is a graduate of the Experimental Theater Wing at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and received his MFA in theater and non-profit arts administration from City University of New York at Brooklyn College.
